Hovander and Tennant Lake

Off-Leash Areas
The park includes several hundred acres of fields and forests. Trails include a half-mile meadow path to Tennant Lake Park.

The Tennant Lake Wetlands Trail winds through marsh, meadow and forest and includes a one-mile boardwalk loop, a dike trail along the Nooksack River (follow road behind center) and a half-mile trail to Hovander Homestead Park

Restrictions: Leash and scoop laws in effect for pets. Suggested parking donation of $3 for visitors from outside Whatcom County.

Map & Directions
From Interstate 5, take Exit 262 (north of Bellingham). Drive west on Main Street; in a half-mile, just after crossing under a railroad overpass, carefully take a sharp left turn on Hovander Drive. Take the first right, on Nielsen Avenue and follow the signs to the Tennant Lake Interpretive Center.  Go to the end of the road and turn right at the park entrance sign.

A new map has been generated which shows on leash areas (around all of the more developed areas of the park), off leash areas (south of the boat launch adjacent to the river; and southwest of the Tennant Lake Interpretive Center), and no pet areas (north of the Park Manager’s house extending to park boundary, the north 2/3 of the lake and the boardwalk)
